Certified Bookkeeper (CB)

FunCPE courses in Tax and Accounting are acceptable for Certified Bookkeeper (CB) CPE credit. CBs in every state can receive credit for our courses.

The American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (aipb.org) was founded in 1987 and has a current membership of 30,000, some of which are Certified Bookkeepers.  You do not need to be a CB to be a member of the AIPB.  The institute focuses on:

  • achieving recognition of bookkeepers as accounting professionals,
  • keeping bookkeepers up to date on changes in bookkeeping, accounting and tax,
  • answering bookkeepers' everyday bookkeeping and accounting questions and
  • certifying bookkeepers who meet high, national standards.

The AIPB bookkeeper certification program requires 60 hours of CPE every 3 years.  Information about the the CPE requirements for Certified Bookkeeper was obtained from an American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers representative:

"Since the inception of the AIPB Certified Bookkeeper program, we have required registration of Continuing Professional Education Credits (CPECs) to maintain certification status. It is the most important part of certification in any industry. Staying updated and current and proving such is of paramount importance to employers, clients and the professional status of the Certified Bookkeeper (CB).

We require all CBs to earn and register a total of 60 CPECs over each three-year cycle from the date of certification. Failure to do so results in revocation of the CB designation.

We accept credits earned for classes, updates, seminars and courses in bookkeeping, accounting, tax, payroll and accounting software."

The AIPB recommends courses in the following subject areas for CBs to expand their skills, knowledge and value to employers or clients:

  • Adjusting entries--accruals and deferrals
  • Correction of accounting errors
  • Depreciation
  • Inventory
  • Statement of cash flows
  • Internal controls and fraud prevention
  • Payroll
  • Financial statement analysis
  • Credit and collections
  • Tax preparation for S corporations
  • Tax preparation for C corporations
  • Tax preparation forSole proprietorships
  • Tax preparation for partnerships

Accordingly, FunCPE courses in the following subject areas are recommended for CPE for CBs:
  • Taxation
  • Accounting and auditing

We welcome Certified Bookkeepers to our site and would like to serve your needs better. Please contact us with any suggestions for new course topics for Certified Bookkeeper CPE specifically.

Note about cost of renewal of Certified Bookkeeper designation. The cost of renewal of the CB designation was not disclosed by the representative.  The AIPB does not publish renewal cost or CPE requirements on their website, although the CPE requirement is listed in their downloadable Certified Bookkeeper Designation Booklet.  In the booklet, they refer to "nominal fees for setting up an account and registering CPECs" but the specific amount of these fees is not disclosed. Membership in the AIPB is currently $60/year, however this membership fee is separate from the renewal of the CB designation.  Students should contact the organization directly to obtain the renewal costs associated with this designation.

California Tax Education Council (CTEC)

FunCPE does not currently offer CTEC courses to California tax preparers.  We have partnered with our friends at TaxCourseCentral.com to offer students access to CTEC approved courses.

California law requires anyone who prepares (or assists with) tax returns for a fee, and is not an attorney, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA), to register as a tax preparer with CTEC.
