
Taking Courses
How do I register for a course?
- Go to the CPE Course List
- Select the course you want
- Click Enroll now to enroll in a course
- Click “Add to Cart” in the pop up window
- Checkout now
- Log in (or create new user ID if you are a new student) to complete enrollment
(Click on “Recover User ID and Password” on the login screen if you’ve forgotten your User ID or password , or call us if your email address has changed and we’ll retrieve it for you) - Enter credit card information (Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover)
- Click Complete Enrollment

NEW USERS:
After you click on Add to Cart and Checkout Now
- Select the button for “I do not have an account with FunCPE“
- Enter a user name and password
- Enter your name/address/license information
- Click on the “Submit” button
- Proceed with registration
How do I login to the course?
- After completing your checkout, you will see a confirmation page containing a link:
Click here to Login
Once you login, you will see a list of courses you are enrolled in.
- Click on Launch next to the course you wish to take
- At any time in the future you can login by clicking on the Student Login from any page of our website, in the top right hand corner of the screen. When you login, you can view the courses you have enrolled in.
Steps to complete the course
The course is completely menu driven and will contain the following steps:
Step 1: How to obtain course materials
Step 2: Print or view the exam (optional)
Step 3: Complete the review questions–for book courses (optional)
Step 4: Complete the final exam
Optional: Print or view the study guide/outline
- Courses and exams may be stopped and re-started as many times as you wish, with no loss of answers.
- When you are taking an exam, simply advance to the next page of the exam to save your answers.
- There is no time limit on the exams except the IRS Annual Federal Tax Refresher course, which is a 3 hour timed exam
All book courses include a Review Questions exam that is optional to take.
You must answer 70% of the questions correctly on the Final Exam in order to pass.
Submit your exam
- At the end of the exam, click on Submit exam
The system asks “Are you sure?”
Click on “yes” - Your grade will be displayed instantly on screen
- If you submitted a Review Questions exam, you do not need to achieve a passing score
- If you passed the final exam, you will receive your certificate of completion by email within minutes
How to obtain your course materials
How to obtain your course materials
All FunCPE book courses are “exam only” so you will need to obtain the course book separately. We do not sell/ship books or materials–this makes your CPE more affordable, because you get your books (for book courses) anywhere you want.
The course listing indicates whether the course uses Online Materials (this means the materials are included in the price and are available once you enroll and login to the course) or Books (which must be obtained separately).
Each course has detailed instructions on how to obtain the appropriate study materials for the course, including book edition information, links to amazon.com, links to the PDF documents, etc.

- After logging into the course system, click on the link to Course Materials to view and/or print the materials.

- If the course uses a book, there will be a link to amazon.com
- To save money, consider looking at Amazon’s used books (we have seen some of our selections available for as little as $1.00)
- Alternatively, feel free to borrow the book from a friend or the library, or purchase it from a local store
- Most FunCPE book courses use books that can be downloaded to a Kindle or other e-reader
I need to retake the final exam
- No charge to retake an exam
- Retake an exam as many times as needed to pass*
* Except the Annual Federal Tax Refresher (AFTR) exam is limited to four retakes
Our course system automatically resets the exam if you don’t pass. You will receive a new copy of the same exam**, without any answers marked. You cannot find out which questions you missed in accordance with IRS and CPA regulations.
** Except the exam for the Annual Federal Tax Refresher (AFTR) exam is different every time you take it.
Book-based courses have an online Review Questions exam. If there is an online Review Questions exam for this course, you do NOT have to re-take the Review Questions exam (the Review Questions exam is optional).
To retake a final exam you will:
- Login to the course system (if you are not currently in the system)
- Click on Launch button next to the course
- Click on Exams in the top blue bar menu of the course system
- Click on Retake this exam next to the Final Exam (under the “Action” column)
You must answer at least 70% of the questions correctly
Final exam review
Due to changes in both the IRS and CPA state board requirements, you cannot review a final exam to see which questions you misssed, until after you pass.
In past years, you could take the final exam, then if you didn’t pass, you could view which questions you missed and simply change the wrong answers and resubmit the exam. Now, you will get a new blank exam each time you re-take a final exam.
How do I see which questions I missed?
Most CPA state boards and the IRS require that CPE courses be “interactive” and also restrict when we can display which questions you missed.
Interactive courses must include:
- Study guide and
- Review questions with feedback for correct and incorrect responses.
We have two types of review question exams
1) Courses labelled “Book Course” have a separate Review Questions Exam in the Exam Center. The review exam is optional, but many students find it is a helpful way to prepare for the final exam.
This type of exam will have a “Start Review Exam” button on the main course page.
- Our Review Questions Exam is set up that you can take the optional exam but you do not have to pass the exam.
- You do not even have to answer all the questions.
- Once you submit the exam, your Exam Results page will have a link titled “Review this exam.”
- Click on that link to find out which questions you missed and why.
After submitting your Review Questions Exam,
- Review your missed questions by going to Exams (in the blue menu bar in the course system) and clicking on the exam name.
2) Courses labelled “Online Materials” have the review questions mixed in with the course material, appearing at the end of each section
In this case, the answers to the review questions, along with the explanations for correct and incorrect answers, are at the end of the document.
Final exam review

- Review your missed questions by going to Exams (top blue menu bar) and clicking on the exam name.
I didn't receive my certificate email
If you don’t receive your Certificate of Completion email
You can easily retrieve a copy (at any time). Here are some screenshots that walk you through getting your certificate copy.
You may not receive the certificate of completion by email if:
- your email address was mistyped,
- your mailbox is full or
- a spam filter has filtered out the email (check your spam or junk mail folder if you have one).
